Warli Style Mutton Curry

on December 31, 2014

Hello Everyone !! This is my last post for the year 2014 🙂 and the first mutton dish am posting in my blog.

I made this over the weekend for my hubby, he loves mutton and so do I 🙂 Had never cooked mutton before marriage, but yeah !! Marriage does strange things to people, and I had to try out on hubby’s demand as he’s an ardent lover of mutton !! 😛

When it comes to mutton, I usually prefer a nice and flavorful curry which goes well with rice as well as roti. Its comforting for a lazy weekend lunch 🙂

I adapted this recipe from “Aditya bal’s” show “Chak de India”. My kitchen was filled with such lovely aromas, I was waiting myself to complete it soon and dig into it.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg mutton
  • 6 green chillies
  • 3 – 4 pods of garlic
  • 1 – 2 inch ginger
  • 3 – 4 onions (medium size) (Sliced)
  • 5 – 6 Tbsp of refined oil
  • 3 tsp of turmeric powder
  • 1 Tbsp of red chilli powder
  • 3 – 4 cardamoms
  • 1 Tbsp of cumin
  • 5 – 6 cloves
  • 1 Tbsp of coriander seeds
  • 1 Tbsp of peppercorns
  • Fresh coriander (a handful to grind, and few for garnish)
  • Salt to taste

Method

For the Marinade:

  • Marinate the mutton with 1 tbsp of refined oil, 3 tsp of turmeric, 1 tbsp of red chilli powder and salt. Put it aside.

For the Garam Masala:

  • Grind 4 cardamoms, 1tbsp cumin, 1 tbsp coriander, 1tbsp peppercorns and 5-6 cloves of garlic together.

For the Hara Masala:

  • Grind a hand-full of coriander with 6 green chilies, 8-9 cloves of garlic, ginger, 2 tbsps of oil and salt.

Procedure

  • Heat oil in a pressure cooker, Fry the onions
  • Add the hara masala and garam masala into it.
  • Add a little water.
  • Once the oil begins to separate from the masala, add in the marinated mutton.
  • Saute everything together, add 2 cups of water and cook for about 6 whistles (Mine was done in 6, however you may take more depending on your meat)
  • Adjust the salt and Serve hot garnished with fresh coriander along with steamed rice or roti
